Series 2. Biographical and Ullman family materials, 1890-2000

 Series

Scope and Contents

Includes a variety of materials and formats documenting personal aspects of Ullman's life as well as other members of the Ullman family, particularly Paul Ullman, the second child of Eugene Paul Ullman and Alice Woods. Like his father, Paul Ullman was an artist. According to his younger half-brother, Pierre, "[Eugene Paul Ullman] looked upon Paul, painter and etcher, as the embodiment of his own artistic ideals. Paul's death in World War II was an irremediable blow to him not only as a father but as an artist" (letter from Pierre L. Ullman to Xenophon T. Barber, August 2000, Accession file).

Files include clippings, exhibition catalogs, a copy of a typed report by Paul, and photocopies of photographs depicting Eugene Paul Ullman at a posthumous Croix de Guerre awards ceremony and Paul's induction into the Legion of Honor. Also includes correspondence regarding Paul's gravemarker and the circumstances under which he died.

Also included here is a scrapbook Eugene Paul Ullman made containing numerous operatic, theatrical, and musical programs, school certificates, and travel ephemera collected in the course of a European vacation with his parents and brother.
