 Series

Scope and Contents

This series contains administrative files and material from events and conferences, reports, and promotional items not specific to a particular program within Milano. Files from the Community Development Finance Lab and Milano Management Information Exhange (Milano MiX) are also found in this series.

A large part of this series, the administrative files subseries, includes files from particular offices within the administration of Milano as well as program assessments, surveys, reports, and handbooks. Electronic files from the offices of Dean Lisa Servon, Associate Dean for Student Affairs Susan Morris, and Director of Program Development Suzy Stein are in this subseries. Also included here are program assessment reports, written both for external review bodies and for internal purposes, and program development files assessing the potential for new programs and the success of existing ones. Taken together, the program assessments and development files provide an understanding of Milano's evolution over a thirty year period.

Faculty and staff files also give a window into the curricular and administrative functioning of Milano. Included here are electronic files from Pier Camillo Rogers, an assistant professor of nonprofit management, and Leo Vazquez, Distance Learning Coordinator for Milano. Annual adjunct faculty reports, also in electronic format, consist of materials submitted by adjunct faculty to the administration and typically include syllabi, resumes, and biographies. Of particular interest in the faculty files are the materials on tenure and extended employment policies at Milano. These materials document the process by which Milano's leadership decided to implement an extended employment policy in lieu of traditional tenure in the late 1970s/early 1980s, and the response from faculty. These files include background research, proposals, memos, correspondence, and meeting notes. Also included here are review materials for faculty members seeking extended employment, which are restricted until fifty years from their date of creation.

Included in this series are files from two initiatives within Milano: the Community Development Finance Lab and the Milano Management Information Exchange (Milano MiX). The Community Development Finance Lab is a course offered at Milano in which students are paired with community based organizations to work with them on funding and program development challenges. The files from this course are mostly reports conducted as part of the Lab, as well as a promotional brochure, and event transcripts and recordings from annual Reality Check conferences. Milano MiX was a resource developed by Milano for community development corporations. Promotional material for this initiative is included in this series. Further information about Milano MiX, including extensive documentation of the planning and implementation of the program, are found in Suxy Stein's office files.

Also included in this series are photographs, realia, and audiovisual material. Recordings on VHS and audio cassette tapes have not been digitized, not has their content been reviewed.
