Each year, Brooks chooses a different theme for students to address in costume that will serve as the fashion show finale. He describes previous themes, such as vegetables, flowers, and "hookers." As Parsons School of Design was celebrating its centenary in 1996, this year's design prompt is to create ten pieces for each decade of the school's hundred year existence. Brooks explains the differences between the costume and fashion design industries, and students ask questions about the project. The microphone captures a student discussion at the conclusion of the recording. In the fashion show program, this project is titled, "Centennial Decades in Red."
