Series 1. Advertising Focus, 1983

 Series

Scope and Contents

Occurring annually between 1981 and 1989, the Focus Photography Workshops offered a week-long immersion in a specialized area of photography. Workshops were open to aspiring professionals and advanced photography students, providing an opportunity to study with working professionals. The most frequent specializations were fashion and photojournalism. Advertising Focus appears to have been offered as a standalone program only in 1983 and 1984, although commercial photographers were invited to present their work in other years, as well. A lecture series held during the same period as the workshops was open to the public. Invited speakers for the 1983 Advertising Focus series include Henrietta Brackman, Peter B. Kaplan, and Pamela Cummings; for 1984, invited speakers include Jerry Abramowitz, Henrietta Brackman, Burt Glinn, Peter B. Kaplan, Harvey Lloyd, and Cheryl Rossum. Presented here is the audio recording of a lecture by Arthur D'Arazien, the only audio recording in The New School Archives representing Advertising Focus.
