Scope and Contents
In the first of three segments, makeup artist Antony Clavet discusses his life and work. Clavet relates his experiences with drag queens and strippers when he first came to New York City. Among other topics, he discusses his travels in Europe and the concept of beauty. He presents a slideshow, as well as clips from the David Bowie movie The Hunger, for which Clavet was the makeup artist. In the second segment, Clavet demonstrates his skills on one of the participants, answers questions, and screens a series of videos. In the third segment, Clavet continues screening movie clips. The workshop concludes with a question and answer session.

Biographical / Historical
Antony (alternately referred to as Anthony) Clavet was a prominent makeup artist, born in St. Francois, New Brunswick, Canada in 1945. At the age of 18, he enrolled in a hairdresser and make-up artist course in Springfield, Massachusetts. He moved on to Montreal, where he started working for Arden, and at night he created make up for strippers and dancers. He became known for his simplicity and quality of work, and soon was working for such European fashion designers as Lanvin, Cardin and Saint-Laurent. He is known for crafting distinctive looks for such luminaries as David Bowie, Catherine Deneuve, Marlene Dietrich, Bianca and Mick Jagger, Sophia Loren, Susan Sarandon, and Queen Noor of Jordan. He was also a stylist and consultant to the films The Cotton Club, The Hunger, and Top Gun, as well as the television show Miami Vice. He died in 1990.
