Biographical / Historical

Helmut Newton, born in 1920, was a German-born fashion photographer. Newton fled Germany in 1938 and was sent to Australia, where he began working in fashion, theater, and industrial photography. Newton later moved to Paris, where he achieved international attention. During his long and varied career, Newton’s photographs have appeared in Harper’s Bazaar and Vogue, and are included in the collections of major art museums around the world. The Helmut Newton Foundation in Berlin was established shortly before his death in 2004.
