Scope and Contents

In the first of two segments, Walter Heun discusses the use of 35mm cameras, as well as some common misconceptions and mistakes that photographers make. In discussing cameras, lenses and techniques, Heun provides insight into his views about photography and offers advice. Workshop participants ask questions throughout. In the second segment, Heun describes his experience photographing the 1968 Democratic Convention and discusses truth and misrepresentation in photography. Heun concludes with a slideshow, during which he offers advice on photographic equipment and techniques.

Biographical / Historical

Walter Heun was born in Dortmund, Germany, possibly in 1938. He worked at Leica for many years as a technical director and the director of the Leica Photo Workshops. Heun also served as the co-organizer of the Focus Photography Workshops at Parsons School of Design.
