Scope and Contents

In the first of two segments, Walter Heun discusses developments in photojournalism over the last twenty to thirty years. He shares stories about photographing 1968 Democratic Convention, as well as his views about current state of the field. He then offers his opinions about Leica Medal of Excellence and the use of captions in photography. At one point in the recording, Heun seems to be looking at students' photographic prints of New York City and offering feedback. Workshop participants ask questions throughout.

Biographical / Historical

Walter Heun was born in Dortmund, Germany, possibly in 1938. He worked at Leica for many years as a technical director and the director of the Leica Photo Workshops. Heun also served as the co-organizer of the Focus Photography Workshops at Parsons School of Design.
