Holz, George, circa 1985 Jun 3-7

 File — Box: Mixed pav_9, cassette: 2.25 A-B

Scope and Contents

The recording begins in the middle of the event. In the first of two segments, George Holz presents a slideshow of his work, comprised mainly of portraits of well-known individuals. Holz speaks on technical aspects of shooting portraits and creating beauty shots, showing photographs he took for an Elizabeth Arden campaign. Workshop participants ask questions throughout. Because Holz stands at a distance from the audio recorder, his voice is at low volume and there is a lot of ambient noise. In the second segment, Holz answers questions and talks about his experiences working for several established photographers. He compares working in the United States and Europe, and indicates that in Europe photographs are never retouched, while in the United States even photographs who don't need to be retouched, are. He also offers career advice.
