The recording begins mid-event. In the first of two segments, Michael O'Brien describes a project he worked on for Life magazine, discussing the process of constructing a visual narrative. Ten minutes into the recording, John Loengard joins the discussion, speaking on editorial decisions. Workshop participants ask questions throughout. In the second segment, Loengard and O'Brian discuss how they collaborate throughout an assignment.

Biographical / Historical
Michael O’Brien was born in Memphis in 1950. O’Brien began his career documenting coal mining in Appalachia, and later worked as a freelance photojournalist for Life and National Geographic. His commercial work includes campaigns for Kodak, Apple, and VISA, among other major brands. O’Brien is further known for his portraiture, photographing notable figures including Al Sharpton, George W. Bush, and Donald Trump.

John Loengard was born in New York in 1934. He served as a photographer for Life magazine from 1961 through 1987, in addition to teaching at The New School. In 2005, he was honored by American Photo as one of the 100 most influential photographers.
