 File — Box: Mixed pav_9, cassette: 2.9 A-B; 2.10 A

Scope and Contents

The recording begins mid-event. In the first of three segments, an unidentified person introduces Roy Stryker, noting his position as head of the Information Division of the Farm Security Administration (FSA) during the Great Depression. Five photographers who participated in the FSA project are invited to discuss their experiences. The panel, which is not introduced, relay stories and experiences from the project. Based upon references in the recording, Arthur Rothstein is probably among the panelists. Another photographer is referred to as Sol and may be Sol Libsohn. Another is referred to as Esther--this is probably Esther Bubley. The last panelist is referred to as Sally. The moderator of the panel is referred to as Cornell--it is possible that this is Cornell Capa. In the second segment, the panelists discuss Stryker's leadership and influence. They go on to address objectivity, editing, and responsibility in photography. The panel concludes with a discussion of the participation of women in the project, as well as the broader possibilites for women in the field during that time. Participants proceed to ask questions.
