Research and writing of this book took place during Vidich's appointment as a professor of sociology at the University of Puerto Rico from 1955 to 1960. The manuscript appears to be incomplete, as it only contains chapters 2-9. It is related to, though distinct from, his research and writing on spritualism in Puerto Rico, also contained in this series.
