Scope and Contents

In 1978 the County of Los Angeles discontinued public support of the Otis Art Institute of Los Angeles as a result of Proposition 13. Landa traveled to California and made the initial suggestion that Otis merge with Parsons School of Design. The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors supported the transformation of Otis into a private institution. Fashion Design, Communication Arts, and Environmental Design majors were added and continuing education evening classes were offered. Otis became independent from Parsons in 1991 and in 1993 changed its name from Otis School of Art and Design to Otis College of Art and Design.
