Series 7. People, circa 1932-2002

 Series

Scope and Contents

Although original labels identified this series as "Faculty," processing archivists determined these files to encompass administrators, guest speakers, trustees, and honorees in addition to faculty. This series features a large chronological range, beginning in the late 1960s and ending in the early 2000s. Numerous prints are headshots provided by guest speakers and honorees or their representatives to The New School for publicity purposes. Others are formal portraits of New School faculty and administrators, seemingly undertaken periodically by a single contracted photographer at the direction of Communications and External Affairs.

The series is divided into two subseries, the first an A-Z subseries in which multiple individuals' photographs are housed within the same folder, with the second subseries featuring one folder per depicted subject. The processing archivist left the arrangement of this series as it was organized by its originating office, including folder titles, with the following exception: when processing archivist encountered five or more prints of the same individual in a letter file, she created a separate name file for that individual.
