Series 7. Roosevelt House interim director and visiting fellow, 2007-2018

 Series

Scope and Contents

Series VII. covers the period during which Jonathan Fanton served in these roles at the Roosevelt House Public Policy Institute at Hunter College, City University of New York (2009-2014). This is the most extensive series in the collection, as the bulk of documents that Fanton donated to The New School Archives came from his office at Roosevelt House. As director and fellow of Roosevelt House, Fanton advised Hunter College on developing their educational program in human rights and was responsible for hosting events and developing the public program of the school, with extensive correspondence and documents pertaining to events. Of particular note are draft questions and other documents pertaining to the speaker series, “Conversations with Interesting People” (originally titled “The Most Interesting People I Know”), which consisted of public interviews that Fanton conducted with people he knew in a personal capacity, including Ed Koch, Danny Meyers, and David Dinkins. Also included in this series are many documents from other organizations with which Fanton was involved during this period, including Scholars at Risk, Safe Water Network, the European University of St. Petersburg, and the International Criminal Court. The series also includes documents from some of the charitable funds for which Fanton consulted or otherwise advised, including Newman’s Own Foundation, The Wolfsonian, and the Rockefeller Brothers Fund.

The Social Science Research Council files, organized under Series VII., also pertain to Fanton's involvement with Roosevelt House, although in the period after his term as director.
