Series 2. Business Manager records, 1921-1969, bulk: 1940 - 1969
Scope and Contents
Consists of records created, received, or assembled by the office of the Business Manager, primarily during the years that William John Gard and Alvin Appel held this position. This title was also sometimes combined with the role of treasurer. Prior to 1957, the position of Business Manager was held by Eleanor Wenig Rushmore, who was also Vice President of the Parsons School of Design. During this period there was a separate position for the treasurer. Comprehensive records from this period are not included here; any records created prior to 1957 were likely those inherited by Gard and kept on file for record-keeping or reference purposes.
This series contains annual financial reports and audits from the 1950s and 1960s, information on accounts held by the school, faculty contracts, and financial records from specific events, such as the Annual Fashion Collection show. This material is valuable documentation of the financial state of Parsons in the years leading up to the financial crisis that would cause the school to merge with the New School. Also of note in this series are "data sheets" containing background information on hired faculty and staff, and enrollment statistics. More student statistics will be found in the Subject Files (Series V.)
