Summary
Mary Frances Gettrust graduated from the New York School of Art (later, Parsons School of Design) in 1939 with a diploma in Costume Design and Illustration, and served as an instructor of Costume Illustration at Parsons in the 1940s. The collection consists of a partial student notebook of costume sketches, printed samples of Gettrust's work as a fashion illustrator, correspondence from Parsons Alumni Association, and Parsons-related ephemera.

Scope and Content of Collection
Collection consists of a partial student notebook of historical costume sketches in pencil and museum research sketches in pencil and gouache, with instructor comments. Additionally, there are two pages of New York Herald Tribune newspaper clippings and black and white reproductions of Mary Gettrust's fashion illustration work, in addition to a clipping depicting Mary Gettrust at Kent State University. The collection also contains correspondence from the Parsons School of Design Alumni Association, a donation appeal, and other Parsons-related ephemera.

Biographical Note
Mary Frances Gettrust (Mrs. Maury G. Baker) attended the New York School of Art (later, Parsons School of Design) from 1936 until her graduation in 1939 with a diploma in Costume Design and Illustration. While she was still a student, Gettrust served as an assistant in the Costume Design and Illustration department. Alumni Association records indicate that she also traveled to Europe to study at the school's Paris Ateliers. In the 1942-1943 Parsons School of Design course catalog and again in the 1944-1945 catalog, Gettrust is listed as an instructor of Costume Illustration. As of 1951, she resided in Cleveland and was employed as an illustrator for the Higbee Company. Mary Gettrust Baker died in 2003.
