Scope and Contents
This collection contains enrollment statistics for The New School, circa 1926-2005, often in report or table form. Numbers of students enrolled are broken down by demographic data such as gender, as well as other categories such as place of residence, academic background, part or full time status, and occupation. No names of students are present, nor is any data regarding race or ethnicity.
The majority of these materials document the New School of Social Research's founding division (now, Schools of Public Engagement) and graduate division (now, the New School for Social Research).
The originating office for at least some of these materials is the university's Office of the Registrar, but it is unclear whether that is the case for all documents in the collection. Due to the absence of provenance, the purpose for which these documents was created is also unknown.

Historical Note
The statistics in this collection reflect the evolving structure, divisions and names of The New School over time. The timeline below is not comprehensive but meant to help guide the researcher in understanding names and divisions found in these statistics.
Timeline of New School divisions
- 1919
- New School for Social Research (NSSR) is established.
- 1933
- Graduate Faculty of Political and Social Science is established. This division will eventually be renamed the New School for Social Research in 2005.
- 1939
- Dramatic Workshop is established, remaining at NSSR until 1949.
- 1943
- NSSR (founding, adult education division) is divided into the School of Politics, and the School of Liberal Arts and Philosophy. These schools will eventually be merged, and renamed the Adult Division in 1972.
- 1970
- Parsons School of Design becomes part of NSSR.
- 1978
- Graduate School of Management and Urban Professions (GSMUP) is established.
- late 1970s
- Parsons Paris is established as a year-round, overseas program (though earlier versions of the program had existed).
- 1985
- Eugene Lang College is established (grew out of Freshman Year Program, established in 1972, and Seminar College, established in 1977).
- 1986
- School of Jazz and Contemporary Music is established.
- 1989
- Mannes College of Music becomes part of NSSR.
- 1997
- New School for Social Research is renamed New School University.
- 2005
- New School University is renamed The New School.

Files are arranged chronologically.
Custodial History
While no accession record exists, the staff of The New School Archives and Special Collections kept these documents together, instead of dispersing them to other collections. It is likely these records were transferred from the Raymond Fogelman Library of the New School for Social Research.
