Historical note

Founded in 1995 in the Economics Department by the political economist David Gordon, CEPA served as the economic policy research arm at The New School for Social Research (formerly the Graduate Faculty). Initially, it targeted three main concentrations: macroeconomics and finance, labor economics (including problems of gender and race), and development economics (including the problems of eastern European economies in transition) with research led by faculty members and employing graduate student fellows. By 2005, the Center's name changed to the Bernard Schwartz Center for Economic Policy Analysis (SCEPA), and it continued to sponsor public lectures, research workshops, scholarly books and conferences, with a focus on faculty-student research working groups in areas of macro-economic policy, globalization, employment and income distribution.
