Scope and Contents
Curated by Parsons School of Design professor of integrated design, Otto von Busch, "Aronson Takeover (Fashion/Values)" was a pop-up exhibition installed in the corridor portion of the Arnold and Sheila Aronson Galleries in the Sheila C. Johnson Design Center at Parsons, from February 7-16, 2023. In a statement about the exhibition included in this collection, von Busch explains that he decided to mount the exhibition after seeing the Aronson Galleries stand empty for several weeks. "The space was hungry for something to tell," he writes. The exhibit consisted of a display of posters that had been sitting in von Busch's office for several years, left over from a 2020 project in which he had displayed posters that "question the tacit values that stand in the shadows of fashion and fashion education" in various spaces around campus. Von Busch indicates that an additional motivation for mounting the exhibition was his desire to demonstrate for Parsons students how they can and should initiate more of their own creative projects, to take "spontaneous action" and practice "design calisthenics." The collection is comprised of sixteen posters, measuring about 11x17 inches each, as well a printed version of the statement about the exhibition. This document includes several photographs from the exhibition.
