Biographical / Historical
The Master of Fine Arts in Contemporary Theatre and Performance program at The New School College of the Performing Arts is a three-year graduate course of study offered by the School of Drama in Acting, Dramatic Writing, and Directing, with an integrated focus. The program was introduced in the Fall of 2021 to replace the School of Drama’s previously separate master’s degree programs. The Contemporary Theatre and Performance curriculum is cohort-based and encourages collaborative work within each individual cohort. Cross-genre and cross-disciplinary performance study is also encouraged, with an emphasis on the incorporation of technology and design principles. As of 2025, Cara Hagan is the director of the Contemporary Theatre and Performance MFA program, and was appointed in July of 2022.
