Administrative and program materials related to the international conference Cuba: The Challenges Ahead, organized in collaboration with the Institute for Social Sciences, Humboldt University, Berlin. The conference took place from October 2–5, 2003 at the Haus der Kulturen der Welt (HKW) in Berlin, Germany, bringing together 22 scholars from Cuba, Central Europe and western countries. According to the final report, the conference facilitated the first major meeting between those who created the conditions for a negotiated transition to democracy in East and Central Europe, and those who were trying to create such conditions in Cuba. Files migrated from floppy disk include papers and statements from the conference, correspondence, and reporting documents. There is some overlap between files on the disk and physical files. Series VI, Audiovisual recordings, includes audio recordings of lectures from the conference.
