Abstract

This collection consists of records relating to the administration and programming of the New School Art Collection from 1987 to 2003, primarily during the tenure of Kathy Goncharov, who curated the collection from 1987 to 2000. The New School Art Collection was formally established in 1960 through a donation from Albert and Vera List.

Abstract

The New School Associates was the first fund raising body associated with the New School for Social Research. Comprised of faculty, former students, school administrators and supporters of the school's aims, the Associates sponsored educational and social events and an annual membership drive. The audio recordings in this collection represent a small number of numerous events sponsored or co-sponsored by the Associates, mostly dating from the 1960s and 1970s.

The New School established the Business Administration Center, directed by economist Julius Hirsch, in 1952 to "meet the practical and continuing needs of businessmen." The collection primarily consists of audio recordings from the Center's ongoing Labor-Management Luncheons. The luncheons featured speakers representing both management and unions with a focus on local, New York City issues related to collective bargaining.

This collection encompasses material related to the overall administration of The New School from 1928-2008. It includes reports, financial papers, board of trustees meeting agendas and minutes, and documents prepared for accrediting by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. The bulk of the files date from the late 1940s-early 1960s and the 1990s-2000s. Of note is "The New School Study" of 1952, also known as the "Swift Report."
