The New School Archives And Special Collections

These records contain student work, publicity materials, photographs, and audiovisual material from the Parsons School of Design School of Fashion's undergraduate and graduate programs, primarily the BFA Fashion Design program. To a lesser extent, the AAS Fashion Design and MFA Fashion Design and Society programs are also documented.

Student artist Mikael Choukroun created this screen-printed poster to advertise the 2023 Parsons School of Design Illustration Department senior show, held in galleries of The New School's Sheila Johnson Design Center.

Consists of approximately 15,058 slides, primarily 1970s-1990s, documenting Parsons School of Design students and campus life. Many of the slides are images of student work. Other images include exhibitions, award and fashion shows, social events, guest lectures, field trips, and campus construction projects. Approximately one third of the slides represent Fashion Design Department-related activities.

A collection of 4 x 5 inch color transparencies of work probably created 1970 through 1975 by Parsons School of Design students in the Communication Design, Environmental Design, Fashion Design, Fashion Illustration, General Illustration, and Graphic Design departments, including work that was exhibited in end of year shows and annual Society of Illustrators Scholarship Competitions.

Consists of Parsons School of Design syllabi compiled by the Office of the Dean in electronic formats between 2006 and 2014. While not comprehensive, approximately 20,000 courses are documented over a seven year period during which Parsons School of Design experienced a significant structural re-organization.

This collection consists of correspondence, clippings, and research related to the Parsons table, a conceptual table design thought to have originated at the Paris Ateliers, the precursor to Parsons Paris, in the 1920s or 1930s and often attributed to French designer Jean-Michel Frank (1895–1941). The materials were assembled by the New School Archives staff as part of a Parsons School of Design Design and Management Department project in 2002.

Student work and a syllabus from two fashion design courses Patrick Michael Hughes taught at Parsons School of Design between 2007 and 2010. The courses, History, Culture, Society and Themes in Men's Fashion are repesented through notebooks, drawings, and papers. Additionally, the collection includes an independent study project based on the men's suit and a project created in a class taught by Hughes's colleague, Lisa SantaAndrea.

The New School was a frequent host of PEN American Center events, co-sponsored by the university's MFA in Creative Writing Program. This collection of mostly audio recordings documents PEN Forums, literary awards, World Voices Festival, and singular events over a roughly 15-year span.

This collection consists of music manuscripts created by composer Peter Pindar Stearns (1931-2016), who taught composition at The Mannes School of Music from 1957 to 1989. The manuscripts include both secular and religious works composed during the period from 1948 to 2013 and the collection also contains correspondence related to the publishing of Stearns's compositions and copies of the published works.

The New School was a frequent host of Poetry Society of America events, co-sponsored by the university's MFA in Creative Writing Program and the university division formerly known as Schools of Public Engagement that focused on continuing education and public programming. This collection of mostly audio recordings documents Poetry Society of America readings, festivals, and awards ceremonies over approximately a decade.
