Abstract

“Biomedical Research in the 21st Century” was a seminar series hosted by Eugene Lang College's Science, Technology and Society program in the Fall semester of 1998. Organized by New School professor Katayoun Chamany and Louis M. Aledort, a hematologist at Mount Sinai School of Medicine, the series featured lectures by physicians and scientists on topics related to biomedical research. The collection consists of fourteen video recordings of the sessions.

The material in this collection was assembled by New School librarian Carmen Hendershott and transferred periodically to the New School Archives. The collection includes fliers, posters, invitations, program and admissions materials, and event programs produced by multiple university divisions including the New School for Social Research, College of Performing Arts, and Schools of Public Engagement, as well as by academic support centers and offices.

Clara Mayer papers

Abstract Clara Woolie Mayer (1895-1988) held a long affiliation with the New School: as a student, as a trustee, and then in administrative roles, including dean of the School of Philosophy and Liberal Arts (1943-1961) and vice president of the New School for Social Research (1950-1961). Conversations about Women event recordings

“Conversations about Women” was an ongoing lecture series held at The New School and organized by the Vera List Center for Art and Politics. Historian and New School women’s studies professor Gina Luria Walker moderated the panels and lectures. Conversations with Actors event recordings

Abstract

Theater critic and biographer Martin Gottfriend organized and moderated the event series, “Conversations with Actors,” at The New School every semester from Summer 1991 through Spring 1994. Each session featured group interviews with well-known actors, especially New York City-based stage actors. The collection consists of audio recordings of the interviews.

Democracy Seminar oral history project

Abstract The Democracy Seminar, a network of seminars that ran from 1984 to 1994, and again from 2018 to the present (2021), were semi-clandestine meetings of scholars held simultaneously in Warsaw, Budapest and New York, before spreading to cities across Eastern and Central Europe. Materials intended for display in an exhibition celebrating Edith Wise Sommerich and Otto Sommerich. Edith was a longtime New School student, founding member and chair of the New School Associates, and, with Otto, a major donor to the school.
