Scope and Contents

This collection consists of working papers, numbered 1-56 (with some gaps in numbering), originating from the Committee on Political Economy of the New School for Social Research. The numbers were assigned by the Committee and follow a rough chronological order. Authors include Thomas I. Palley, David M. Gordon, Willi Semmler, and Alice H. Amsden.

Hannah Arendt New School faculty files

Abstract

Hannah Arendt was University Professor in Philosophy from 1967-1975 in The New School's Graduate Faculty (later, New School for Social Research). These records stem from her work as professor and advisor to students, and her involvement with the Tenure Committee. Student files consist of transcripts, writing samples, resumes, referral requests, grant applications and correspondence, among other documents related to graduate student admissions.

Harry Gideonse served as chancellor of the New School for Social Research (now The New School) from 1966 to 1975. This collection contains administrative material from his time at the New School for Social Research, and from work with other organizations during this period, including Freedom House and City University of New York. Horace M. Kallen research files

Abstract

These papers contain drafts, outlines, notes, and manuscripts authored by Horace Meyer Kallen (bulk 1930s-1960s), documenting his career as a founding professor of philosophy at the New School for Social Research (1919-1974). His papers also contain writings by others and research material in the form of offprints and printed journals. Many topics center on religion and his work with Jewish organizations during the 1950s-1960s.

Independent study oral history project on New School history

Abstract

This oral history project consists of six audio interviews conducted by New School for Public Engagement student Gerard O. Hemmerle as an independent study under the supervision of Professor Julia L. Foulkes during the Spring 2013 semester. Interviewees consist of long-serving university faculty and staff, primarily associated with what was known as the New School for Public Engagement. Recordings are all in English.

Instant Replay with Steven Hoffman session recordings

Instant Replay was a conversation series held at The New School, focusing on professional sports from the perspectives of players, coaches, journalists and television producers. Steven Hoffman coordinated the course and moderated the sessions. The collection is comprised entirely of reel-to-reel audio recordings.
