Scope and Content of Collection
The Margaret Susan Daniell papers consist of biographical materials about Daniells written by her daughter, student work in the form of a class notebook and reproductions of drawings depicting costume details. According to her daughter, Daniell conducted research in the costume collection at the Metropolitan Museum of Art to create these drawings, an integral experience for Parsons fashion students during the early and mid-twentieth century. The notebook features Daniell's work in the area of costume history.
Personal materials include two photographs of Daniell, one taken in 1934 and a second with her husband, Bill, taken in 1984. Additionally, the collection contains a swatch of lace cut from Daniell's wedding dress, which was designed and made of bias cut silk satin with rose point and princess lace by Daniell’s mother, Ida. The lace was used again on Daniell’s daughter’s and her granddaughter’s dresses.
