This collection contains physical and digital materials created by office staff and administrators in the Dean's Office of the Schools of Public Engagement Bachelors Program for Adults and Transfer Students. This material was intended for use by the Dean's Office in its communication with students, faculty, and other New School administrative units.

Scope and Contents
This collection contains physical and digital materials created by office staff and administrators in the Dean's Office of the Schools of Public Engagement Bachelors Program for Adults and Transfer Students. This material was intended for use by the Dean's Office in its communication with students, faculty, and other New School administrative units. The majority of the items fall into five categories:
1) Administrative records and student policies: This material includes advisor handbooks for faculty; information sheets and policy guides for students; correspondence; and blank template forms. Information regarding student registration and degree-completion planning is also found here. Also included are student academic and code of conduct policies consisting of information sheets outlining student policies and guidelines for navigating the university (such as registration how-to's, the Code of Ethics, and academic standing forms).
2) Curriculum and courses: These files and folders contain correspondence, letter templates, and blank forms. Also found herein are course and department overviews and curriculum development reports.
3) This collection also contains a large number of individual course syllabi from Humanities and Social Sciences departments.
4) Faculty and staff meeting minutes and agendas: Included are documents with both agenda and minutes from meetings, as well as handouts prepared for these meetings.
5) Also included is a series of material relating to the School of Undergraduate Studies, which overlapped in some areas with BPATS.

Historical Note
Founded in 1919 as a “center for discussion and instruction for mature men and women," the New School for Social Research was officially chartered by New York state as a degree-granting institution in 1934. When new divisions were added to the school, the original adult education program became commonly known as the Adult Division.
The Schools of Public Engagement is the direct successor division to the Adult Division. The unit was formed in 2011, when the New School for General Studies (the then-current name of the Adult Division) merged with the Milano School of International Affairs, which itself had in 2010 brought the Graduate Program of International Affairs under its umbrella.
As of 2017, the Schools of Public Engagement is composed of five schools: Bachelor's Program for Adults and Transfer Students; School of Languages; School of Media Studies; Milano School of International Affairs, Management, and Urban Policy; and the Creative Writing Program.
A distinct entity within the Schools of Public Engagement, the Bachelor's Program for Adults and Transfer Students (BPATS) provides courses and undergraduate degrees to adults and transfer students seeking an alternative to the traditional four-year college experience. The students enrolled in the Bachelor's Program include: adults who want to complete their education after several years away from college; students transferring from two-year colleges who want to earn their bachelor’s degree; students who are currently taking or have recently taken courses and want to transfer credits into a degree program; and students who want to earn their degree at a school that gives credit for relevant life experience.
BPATS is separate from the undergraduate programs focused on traditional four-year degree students at The New School. However, many of the courses, majors, minors, and certificates are cross-listed and otherwise made available to these latter students. According to their website, the Bachelor's Program "is deeply rooted in the goal of lifelong higher learning articulated by the founders of The New School in 1919. In 1943, The New School began offering a bachelor's degree program for transfer students and adults to address the educational needs of returning WWII veterans. Today, our dedication to that mission continues in a program that offers exceptional services and an innovative curriculum to nearly 1,000 adult students in New York City and online."
