Mark Schmidt collection of Mobilization materials

Abstract

Mark Schmidt is an alumnus of Eugene Lang College at The New School who took part in the Mobilization for Real Diversity, Democracy, and Economic Justice. The Mobilization was a campus movement during the 1996-1997 school year that protested the firing of Professor M. Jacqui Alexander, an Afro-Carribbean feminist scholar and Graduate Faculty member. This small collection of materials, assembled by Schmidt, includes photographs and a video.

The collection is comprised of Marty Spiegel's student work for Parsons' Environmental Design Department, which he attended from 1973 to 1976. Mary Gettrust collection

Summary

Mary Frances Gettrust graduated from the New York School of Art (later, Parsons School of Design) in 1939 with a diploma in Costume Design and Illustration, and served as an instructor of Costume Illustration at Parsons in the 1940s. The collection consists of a partial student notebook of costume sketches, printed samples of Gettrust's work as a fashion illustrator, correspondence from Parsons Alumni Association, and Parsons-related ephemera.

Abstract

This collection primarily consists of correspondence, articles, and proofs related to the publication of graphologist and New School faculty member Klara Roman's (1881-1962) book, Encyclopedia of the Written Word. The materials were assembled by actor, director, and author Maurice Edwards (1922-2020) in his capacity as Roman's assistant and posthumous co-editor (with Rose Wolfson). The files also hold items related to Edwards's theater career.

Named one of Architectural Digest’s top 100 designers in 1990 and 2002, Melvin Dwork (1922-2016) attended Parsons School of Design in the 1940s, and later served on the Parsons Advisory Committee. Menachem Zur (born 1942) is an Israeli composer who studied at Mannes College of Music (now, Mannes School of Music), and Columbia University. His compositions are influenced by modernism, post-tonal music, and set theory, as well as traditional Jewish music. The collection includes various chamber music scores by Zur, mostly in photocopy form, as well as a recording of several of his compositions.
