The School of Media Studies began as the Center for Understanding Media. Accredited through Antioch College, the program offered courses through the New School for Social Research. The New School formally absorbed Media Studies in 1975, after a four-year partnership. Overview

Parsons School of Design was established in 1896 and became affiliated with The New School as the university's art and design college in 1970. New School Archives staff assembled this collection of audiovisual materials, exhibition catalogs, posters, publications, student work, and other formats from departmental transfers and personal donations by Parsons School of Design faculty, students and administrative staff beginning in 2009.

The items in this collection represent work created by students enrolled in Parsons School of Design's Graphic Design program. Screen-printed posters constitute the majority of the collection, with other examples including books, cards, jewel cases for compact discs, plastic mats, and a thematic sculpture series documented in color photographs and one sample. The majority of the work was produced for classes taught by Katarzyna Gruda.
