Abstract

Edward Aldwell (1938-2006) was an American pianist, music theorist, teacher, and recitalist. The Edward Aldwell papers consist of Aldwell’s course notes and files. Included in the collection are curricula, Schenkerian analyses, notes on a textbook he co-authored, and records pertaining to administrative matters at the Curtis Institute of Music and the Mannes School of Music.

Abstract

Elizabeth Aaron taught ear-training in the Techniques of Music department of Mannes College of Music (later, Mannes School of Music at The New School) from 1957 to 2017. The collection consists of administrative files relating to Aaron’s committee roles, Mannes board of trustee minutes, notebooks, recordings, photographs, and materials pertaining to the attempted merger of Mannes and Manhattan School of Music in 1978.

Larry Freund interviews with Esther Hoffman

Abstract

This collection consists of transcripts of seventeen interviews with Esther Hoffman Wexler (1918-2014), conducted by her cousin, Lawrence Freund, between 2012 and 2014. Hoffman, a Canadian-born concert pianist and a longtime piano teacher at the Mannes College of Music (which became a division of The New School in 1989), discusses her life experiences and her career as a musician and as a teacher in New York City and Toronto.

Abstract

The Mannes Camerata, founded in 1981 by Paul Echols, was Mannes College of Music's early-music ensemble. It was comprised of students, faculty, and graduates of the combined undergraduate and graduate early music programs at the Mannes, which joined The New School in 1989. The collection contains scores, schedules and program notes, photographic materials, librettos, press releases, and correspondence.
