Mannes School of Music clippings and scrapbook collection

Summary

This collection consists of news clipping files and scrapbooks that document Mannes from its founding through the early 1990s. The scrapbooks, which cover the school's early history through the 1960s, contain concert programs, advertisements, and news articles. Other scrapbooks, some from before the establishment of Mannes, document the activities of the school's founders, David and Clara Mannes, in their work as musicians and educators.

Summary

After graduating from Parsons School of Design in 1945, Margaret Hodge became director of fashion marketing at Vogue, and in 1967 formed her own fashion publicity firm. Hodge led various marketing campaigns integrating the fashion of Hollywood films. The collection mainly consists of Hollywood promotional material, including publicity photographs, press kits, announcements and tear sheets. Most of the material was produced from 1962 to 1976.

The collection is comprised of Marty Spiegel's student work for Parsons' Environmental Design Department, which he attended from 1973 to 1976. Milton S. Gilbert (1913-1976) was a professional hair stylist and entrepreneur, who apprenticed with Antoine of Paris, worked in the New York and Chicago Saks Fifth Avenue salons, and later owned beauty salons throughout the midwestern United States.
