Scope and Contents
The Weekly Observer collection consists of each issue of the electronic news organ, produced by the New School's Communications and External Affairs office. The publication contains news from across the university, announcing upcoming lectures and performances, student activities and services, faculty and administration appointments and accomplishments, and highlights collected from all academic divisions of The New School, as well as information about centers, institutes, and other departments. The publication launched on September 2, 1997 as an email blast to the New School community (in this collection, the first issue is present as a physical printout, only). The publication was simultaneously posted online on The New School website, and a physical version was distributed around campus. The format of the newsletter changed over time, and in late 2007, the publication switched to an online blog format, in which the email blast contained brief articles, only, with links to longer online announcements. The Weekly Observer was succeeded by The New School News blog, which first appeared online on September 2, 2010, and is still in publication as of September 2024.
